Academic Success Programs

Boys & Girls Club uses the Project Learn method, an evidence and researched based afterschool learning strategy designed to build and reinforce academic skills. Project Learn features five components: homework help and tutoring, high-yield activities, school day collaboration, parental involvement and student incentives/recognition. Activities are intentionally designed to provide students will learning experiences that are hands-on, interactive and linked to reading, math and science skills.

Power Hour homework time has long been a staple of Club programming and is often cited as the top reason parents and teachers recommend the Club to others. Power Hour Recharged focuses on giving members important academic time, but breaking it up into smaller sections for flexibility. During program time, members receive a 20-minute lesson in reading, math or science, followed by 20 minutes of homework, followed by 20 minutes of silent reading.

STEM program focusing on creativity, designing and building challenges with lessons on engineering skills, transportation, gadgets/technology and aerospace. Makerspace is for elementary members while Design The Future is geared toward tweens and teens.

A computer literacy program that encourages members to learn and master computer skills needed to be successful in a rapidly digitalized world. Focus areas include digital literacy including online safety, digital presence, gaming and reliable sources of information; media making and graphic design; and computer science topics such as word-processing and how computers work. Older members will also learn about 3D printing techniques.

A literacy-based program focusing on developing competence in reading comprehension, analysis of words, application of the writing process, developing text and more.

Enhanced STEM program with a hands-on approach to learning scientific principals and real-world application of science. DIY STEM is for elementary members while Ultimate Journey is geared toward tweens and teens.

Visual art program that fosters creativity and imagination while supporting the development of self-expression and creative thinking skills.

Path To Success includes workforce development activities, including career exploration, financial literacy programs and academic eSports.
