Look out Hollywood, there’s some new talent in town after the fourth annual Rising Stars Talent Show, presented by Bryant Motors. Held April 11 at the Liberty Center Association of the Arts, the show brought together acts from all 12 Boys & Girls Club Sites to entertain a large group of family and friends.

“We’re so proud of all our members and the time and practice they put into perfecting their acts,” said Director of Operations Tyler Hudson. “Every year the talent seems to get better and better.”

The show had a special opening act when Skyline member Austin Nations told a few jokes to get the crowd warmed up. After that, performances included singers, dancers and even a sign language act and puppetry. Skyline Site member Tessa Martin won first place in the individual category, singing “Lost Boy” by Ruth B.

“I’m so proud of Tessa for all the hard work she’s put into practicing her song,” said Skyline Site Director Lance Williams. “She represented her site very well and I’m glad the judges recognized her talent.”

The Dresden Site won first in the group category for their singing and puppetry act to a mash-up of 1950s and 1960s songs. All of the members also wore special poodle skirts and jeans to match the theme.

“I have to say, it was a lot harder to judge the acts this year than in years past,” said presenting sponsor and judge Kyle Herrick. “Everyone did such a great job and we saw a lot of great talent which made it hard for us to pick the winners.”

Other Talent Show winners were: DaNaine Aman, second place individual category; Ashlyn Russell, third place individual category; The CLUB, second place group category; Heber Hunt Site, third place group category; Dresden Site, group category people’s choice award winner; and DaNaine Aman, individual category people’s choice award winner.
