The Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri’s Cole Camp Site were able to get a lesson in how hard birds work to gather their food, thanks to a few special visitors last week.

CC Visit2Several members of the Missouri Master Naturalists visited the site with activities to show the members how different birds eat. Club kids tried their hand at using tweezers or chopsticks to pick up grains of rice – standing in for bugs a bird might find on a log or in tall grass. They also used nets to swoop up pieces of “fish” and even tried their best to catch popcorn in their mouth that was thrown toward them, simulating birds catching bugs mid-air.

“The kids had a great time,” said Cole Camp Site Manager Tara Walker. “We’re very thankful to the Missouri Master Naturalists for visiting us and giving our Club members a fun, hands-on experience.”
