The Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri is asking area residents to open their wallets and their hearts and contribute to the SAY Yes Scholarship Fund.

The SAY (Sponsor A Youth) Yes fund is used when a member’s family is unable to pay for the Club’s $5 a day or $20 per week programming fee. By offering a sliding scale fee, members are able to attend the Club and parents have peace of mind knowing their child is in a safe, stable environment after school and during the summer months.

While the Club collects donations to the SAY Yes fund year-round, the bulk of it is given during the annual An Evening of Heart & Hope, presented by WK Chevrolet. During the 2016 event held in February, auction attendees – led by SAY Yes Champion Sponsor Starline – raised approximately $22,000 for the fund.

“We are so grateful to those who raised their paddles at the auction to provide scholarships for our members in need,” said Director of Development Melissa Boeschen. “However we fell short of our goal of $50,000. The needs of the scholarship fund haven’t changed – there are still many Club members who need this financial assistance to attend.

“We are asking the public to help us make this goal.”

“One thing that’s important to remember is that all monies donated to the SAY Yes fund go directly toward helping members attend the Club. It is not used for other operations expenses,” Boeschen added.

Club parent Dana Green, whose children Caden and Cyler both attend a Boys & Girls Club Site said the SAY Yes Scholarship Fund is important to her family.

“As a mother striving to provide the best for my children, being awarded a SAY Yes scholarship has opened opportunities for them to be successful in school,” she said. “Big things often have small beginnings.”
