The Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri’s Board of Directors is responsible for advocating, informing and promoting the Club within the community. Serving three-year terms, board members work to build financial support for the organization and to steer the organization in a positive and sustainable direction. Community and business leaders are encouraged to join the board to help support the Club’s mission to inspire and enable all young people to realize their full potential as caring and productive citizens.
Matt Melville, President
Matt joined the board in 2011.
Todd Gerlt, Vice-President
Todd joined the board in 2011 because he believes the Club improves communities by enhancing our educational programming offered through local school districts via educational programming, mandatory study hours and physical activities. By joining the Board, Todd wanted to help maintain the financial viability of our organization while maintaining the quality of programming that the Club offers. Todd is the Sedalia Market President and Commercial and Ag Lending with US Bank and has worked as a commercial and Ag Lender with US Bank for more than a decade. Todd and his wife, Jessica, have two daughters, Ashlyn and Makenna, and a son, Caden. In his spare time he enjoys playing disk golf, following the Missouri Tigers, Chiefs, and Royals, and being involved with his children’s activities.
Emily joined the board in 2016 because she wants to support an organization that has a positive impact in the community. Emily is the Corporate Controller at Inter-State Studio & Publishing Co. and has more than 10 years of accounting and auditing experience. She is actively involved in the Sedalia Young Professionals organization. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, watching basketball, reading, and running.
Trish Henson, Secretary
Trish joined the board in 2013 because she want to be a part of leading the mission to guarantee a strong and stable future for the children of this community. Although, she and her husband do not have children of our own, as foster parents, they had children in the Club. The Club has world class programming being led by a world class staff, and it’s that combination that enables the members to achieve their academic goals while building character and confidence in a safe and fun environment. Trish is a residential mortgage lender. When she’s not helping applicants achieve their goals of home ownership, she enjoys working out, fishing, golfing, women’s bible studies, and spending time with family and friends.
Jake joined the board in 2014 because he wanted to help support and give back to the community that supports his business. Jake is the owner of Jake’s Creative Woodworks, a local cabinet shop, and has been in business since 2003. In his time away from work and family, he likes to build furniture, watch nascar racing, and go hunting or do anything outdoors.
Chris joined the board in 2016 because he enjoys helping children to become better people and better citizens of the community. Chris has been the Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 49 since 1988 and currently works as the District Executive for Osage Trails District of the Great Rivers Council, Boy Scouts of America. He is also the pulpit minister of the Blackwater Church of Christ in Blackwater since 1992. Chris and his wife Sharon have been married more than 38 years and have two children and three grandchildren. He enjoys backpacking in our National Park’s canyons and mountains; Dutch-Oven cooking; camping; hunting; and most all outdoor activities.
Barry joined the board in 2014 because he believes in the future of area children. Barry has 40 years of sales and management experience working with the paper and printing industry and currently works part time for PrintLynx and Shaughnessy Paper. He is actively involved in his church and Boy Scout Troop 49. He and his wife, Brenda, have five grandchildren, ranging in age from 8-months to 6-years-old. They are avid hunters and golfers and enjoy cross-country travel on their motorcycle.
Justin joined the board in 2016 as an opportunity to serve others in the community and to be able to give back and help youth grow in our community. Justin has worked in retail the last 17 years and has worked the last year as the assistant store manager at Kohls. Besides my family time out side of work, he also enjoys St. Louis Cardinals baseball, University of Missouri sports as well as golfing and the outdoors.
Erin joined the board in 2015.
RJ joined the board in 2010 because he believes in what the Club does for kids and how it benefits the community as a whole. The Club is a vital part of raising responsible children who add value to their community. RJ is the owner of two manufacturing companies in Sedalia who’s products range from brooms, brushes, and mops to natural rubber sponges. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with my family, camp, and play golf.
Sharon joined the board in 2011.
Darren joined the board in 2009 to promote the Club and the youth it supports. Darren’s service is in honor of his sister, Darla Pannier, who loved children and wanted to make a career working with them. Darren is the State Fair Community College Athletic Director, a position he has held for the last 15 years. During his tenure at SFCC he was previously Head Coach for the Lady Roadrunners and Head Coach for the volleyball program. He is also heavily involved in the National Junior College Athletic Association and serves on three NJCAA committees. Darren and his wife Sara have a son Brice and a daughter Kiser.
Dana joined the board in 2014 because she has a granddaughter that has attended a Club site for the last three and a half years. After spending 15 years raising money for the American Cancer Society, a charity very dear and close to her heart, Dana decided to shift focus to a local program. She has worked at State Fair Community College for 10 years as the coordinator of the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center and has coached the Spirit Squad for the last 13 years. She and her husband Jim, who also works at SFCC, have two children, James and Amanda, and two granddaughters. In her free time Dana enjoys reading, quilting and working on craft projects.
Megan joined the board in 2014. Megan is very family minded and became interested in helping the Boys and Girls Club due to the outstanding work they do for the kids in our community. After nine years in the consumer banking industry, Megan made a career change and became a Occupational Coordinator for Family Medicine Associates. Megan is married to Jeff, and they have two sons, Jonah and Jude. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, running half marathons and 5Ks, leading worship at her church, and volunteering as a cheer coach for Upward Basketball.
Ashlee joined the board in 2014 because she believes in everything the Club has to offer. Seeing first hand how her own children became involved in and enjoyed the Club, she decided she wanted to be a part of the movement. She has shown her commitment to the Club by volunteering in many of the fundraisers and activities for the past four years. Ashlee looks forward to continue to watch the Club grow while serving her time on the board. Ashlee is a Realtor for Re/Max of Sedalia and in her opinion it is the best career to have since it gives her the ability to work with the public but also time to spend with her three children, Dylan, Ali and Rylee and with her significant other, Jason and his two daughters, Zoe and Birkli. Ashlee is also involved with the Sedalia Noonday Optimist Club, Parkview Elementary PTA and the Women’s Service League.
Brad joined the board in spring 2014 because he believes in the mission of the Boys and Girls Clubs. As superintendent of Sedalia School District 200 and having spent 31 years in education, he has seen first-hand the positive impact that club programs have had on the more than 650 Sedalia students who participate at school-based sites. By joining the board, Brad wanted to ensure a continued strong relationship among the district, the community and the Club. Brad and his wife, Danette, have two daughters, Whitney and Brianna, and a son, Kevin. In his spare time, he enjoys watching football, working on the farm, following politics and going to his daughter’s soccer games.
John joined the board in 2013 in an effort to help the Club continue its role in the communities it serves as a place to offer all students after school help. As a former employee of the Club and someone who has two grandchildren involved in daily Club activities, John has been able to see firsthand the benefit the Club and its programs deliver. By joining the board, John is focused on the future sustainability of the Club and its programs. John is the owner of JAM Marketing in the Sedalia area. In his spare time he also enjoys playing golf, helping other organizations like Mo Kids Outdoors, the local Friends of the NRA chapter, and First United Methodist Church.
Ron joined the board in 2016 because he wanted to give back to an organization in which he was once a member of and had such an impact on his life. He wants to contribute to a program that helps build educational goals, character and pride in our youth today. Ron is the Business Specialist for the State of Missouri Vocational Rehabilitation office in Sedalia, working in the Central Region and covering several different counties across Missouri. He helps establish a relationship between local businesses and the VR to ensure employment opportunities. Ron has coached the youth of Sedalia for several years in hopes to help mold them into a more rounded individual and player. In his spare time, he enjoys coaching football and soccer, working on remodeling projects and watching his children play sports.
