In a tremendous show of community support, the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri’s second annual 5K Glow Run/Walk, presented by Starline, brought in nearly $20,000 for Club operations. While the amount raised is higher than last year’s total, it still makes up less than 1 percent of the Club’s overall budget.

The run was held June 12 on the State Fair Community College campus and brought together more than 450 runners and walker registrants of all ages.

“We’re thrilled with the turnout and want to thank everyone who was involved in making this year’s 5K such a success,” said Communications Coordinator Emily Jarrett. “I’d like to especially thank all our volunteers; without them we could not have had such a great event.”

Additional thanks should be given to Glow Run sponsors, Jarrett added, including title sponsor Starline, whose donation contributed to nearly doubling the amount of sponsorship money raised compared to last year’s run.

“We’d also like to thank Dr. Joanna Anderson and State Fair Community College, not only for allowing us to use their campus as our course again this year, but for her great suggestion of creating a scholarship with some of the Glow Run proceeds,” Jarrett said.

With a SFCC matching donation, the 2016 Youth of the Year teen winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship to attend the college when they have graduated.
