At the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri, service to the Club and the community are instilled in members each day. Whether it’s collecting food and blankets for the Sedalia Animal Shelter, making and delivering Christmas cards to a local senior center or hosting a car wash and donating the proceeds to the Club’s Unmet Needs fund, members go above and beyond when it comes to giving back.

The Club is now asking the community to do the same through Giving Tuesday, a day created to encourage giving to a local charitable agency. Now in its third year, the event was founded as a response to Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday – after spending those days shopping for loved ones, Giving Tuesday asks residents to give back to the community the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

“After traveling, shopping and giving thanks, when the hustle and bustle has subsided on Tuesday, individuals can reflect on the holidays and the season of giving,” said Club Interim Executive Director Jessica Pyle. “Giving multiplies exponentially, eventually spreading across the entire community.”

Whether it’s a gift of $5 or $500,000, area residents will know their financial contribution to the Club goes directly toward impacting and improving the lives of area children. For those who may not be able to donate monetarily, the Club has many volunteer and mentoring opportunities available.

“This is the season for warming hearts, sharing smiles and spreading cheer,” Pyle added.
